Denver, Colorado

Matthew Etter

Registered nurse, becoming a software developer.

Ten years at the bedside: ICU step-down, travel contracts across the country, now float pool in Denver. These days most of my time goes to a computer science post-bacc at CU Boulder and building things with the hours left over.

Now

Working through the CU Boulder CS post-baccalaureate program (data structures, systems, the fundamentals) while picking up part-time progressive-care shifts at hospitals around Denver. This site runs on a small VPS I administer myself.

Projects

skymatch

Pulls today's NOAA forecast for Denver, finds the most similar days in a year of historical atmospheric soundings, and shows how those days actually flew, using logged paraglider flights from XContest. Answers the question every pilot asks: the forecast looks like that, but will it fly?

LLL lattice basis reduction

An implementation of the Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovász algorithm on a custom matrix class, translated from the original math paper. Relevant to breaking weak RSA and to the lattice cryptography that may replace it.

C++

RSA from scratch

Key generation, encryption, and decryption implemented in notebooks, built to understand the number theory underneath rather than to be used.

Python · Jupyter

More coming as coursework turns into things worth showing.

Off the clock

Paragliding whenever the soundings look right, rock climbing, and reading more than I finish.
